cassette
I am lucky
to be from a time
when you had cassette
as the popular medium
you had to really commit
to the music
fast forwarding was not an easy task.
you couldn't just skip the artists hard work
in a split second
you couldn't just opt out of their
pain
struggles
and expression in one click
you had to really commit
it was the endnote of an age
where you really had to
appreciate an entire album
and if you really loved a song
it was worth waiting for the tape to rewind
it paid off
it gave you something to wait for
and by that second listen
and that second wait
watching the spool collect
it was still chilling
it was still worthwhile
you knew you had a moment
always celebrated when you would
hear that song a decade later.
You would grow with the cassette
as the song titles wore off the face
you still knew the order
as the tape would warp and
time would take its toll
the notes would still resonate
further in the distance
by this time it didn't matter
time could try to leave a dent
try push all its weight
on those songs
by that time it didn't matter
cause you didn't need the cassette
any longer
the songs you would never forget
and you could hear in your sleep
and you could sing to yourself
even a decade later

Another Week In Jonestown..
words like this never
come out beautiful
and I move to stay unmoved
for another day
through a real life
clutch burned out
been spinning out for days
wont stop for a minute
were not moving now
smiles that make it worthwhile
its starting to make sense....
(alternate intro for A week In Jonestown)

department stores
Once I saw
there was
places with palm trees
outside of department stores
I never wanted to be
anywhere else
but there.

Ms. Helen
"Are you cold?" Ms. Helen asked me as she pushed her cart up to my stand
"Well, yea kinda I suppose so.." I answered back hands full of morning papers trying to get all my work done before 9, hood tied tight over my head.
"I miss that hat you used to wear" Ms. Helen smiled.
"Oh! My uncle buck hat? Alot of people hate that hat." I showed half a smile.
"You would wear that all winter without a jacket. Just that hat. That was the first thing we noticed about you. "
I was now showing a full smile.
"I miss that hat.." Ms. Helen said as she began to turn to return to work
" I miss being strange. " I said to her as she turned away.
I then put down my morning papers I was auditing and picked up my notebook I had hidden under my terminal of writing I had been working on.
