Floor-Dove

..and the latest installment of bragging rights record scores. Today I found myself with an old friend selling records on my day off and enjoying overcast gray weather all day, riding my bike around my favorite resort town. And best of all, a copy of FLOOR - DOVE on GREEN swirl vinyl. Its a No Idea release, so keeping up with the different colors is almost impossible. Green is only 303 copies, we have blue at the store too. Awesome record. Outrageously heavy, downtuned doom masterpiece. The story of the album is pretty neat too.

"The entire second side of the record is inhabited by "Dove", an eighteen minute torrent, replete with rivers of feedback and the signature FLOOR double guitar stagger and punch. Welcome to FLOOR’s legendary, long-lost first album, recorded in 1994, but cryptically, mysteriously never released... until now! Be warned: this is raw and direct, pulverizing and intense, with melodic undertones and a dark groove building and exploding! Your ears will never be the same! " - from no idea

Catherine Wheel-Show Me Mary 1993

There's no reason why this single shouldn't be one of your favorite songs from the band. Catherine Wheel is the jawbreaker of shoegaze, and this song is their chesterfield king. Great song, period. And a rather enjoyable video with all the benefits of great 90's video's at their prime. Pre taxicab confessions..old women, overly confident singers, elvis impersonators, black guys in skinny ties...all backed by an incredible song of an amazing album, ladies and gentlemen, catherine wheel struck gold with this one

It was never my intention to brag...

but I think I'm gonna change the format of this whole blog exclusively to the following:

- awesome things from the 90's
- records that I own that are incredible
- pictures of joel as a tradition skinhead
- awesome barack obama merchandise

Nine Inch Nails - Gave Up 1992

Here is the video for the single "Gave Up" off Nine Inch Nails 1992 release of the Broken EP. This album is awesome, and my favorite release by the band. Look for a video cameo of a young Marilyn Manson and Rich Patrick, vocalist for Filter on guitars. They were both briefly in Nine Inch Nails during this period. This is my favorite era of the band, and one of my favorite early 90's singles.

Baby we were born to write run on sentences....

Test press is in ! The cover of Joel as an obvious traditional skinhead youth is incredible. Its hard to believe that picture is over 10 years old. The font is a little off, and the layout needs work and it is now in the stages of relentless editing. Thanks to Jay for printing a generous run of test presses. Also, thanks to Steve Sheckelton for taking on the role of Editior, which is pretty brutal due to the fact I can barely spell, have no grammar and love run on sentences.
Thanks to the help of great friends, and new ones like Jackie, Maro, Jay and Steve this book should turn out great.

Settle Down City

thanks to john lamb, I now have a one of 50 YOUNG WIDOWS winter 08 press of Settle Down City, with an alternate cover silkcreened by Nick from Widows. It basically turned into a friends press due to the fact is was such a small press.

Story goes that every time you press a record, you always have left over records without sleeves. Nick found about 50 or so Settle Down Lp's, made new artwork, screened it and sold the rest of the press, limited out of 50.

I know this is a typical bragging rights post, but really am stoked to have this in my growing YW collection. Most radical.
